Capture This! Focusing the Lens on Community and Creativity

To end the month of June, Regenerate Society, Inc.’s Creative Arts Division hosted Capture This!, a hands-on workshop created to build community among photographers and videographers across Birmingham. Designed as a sequel to last season’s pilot at 2D Filmworks, this year’s edition focused specifically on post-production—the often overlooked but critical piece of the creative process.

Hosted at Innovation Depot, the event kicked off with a deep dive into foundational post-production techniques including composition, exposure, and color grading. The workshop was led by Division Interim & Project Coordinator Devin Tanksley, with an opening presentation delivered by Executive Director Wesley Wright.

To elevate the experience, attendees were invited to an engaging panel discussion with industry creatives Kayla Gladney and Desean Motley, moderated by Christiana Cudger, a fourth-season veteran and Creative Arts Captain. Through storytelling, practical advice, and candid insights, the panel connected the dots between visual creation and the editing decisions that shape emotion and narrative.

“Capture This!” was more than a technical session—it was a chance for creatives of all levels to grow, connect, and find inspiration in each other’s journeys.

The Creative Arts Division addresses the social issue of limited access to creative outlets and the lack of resources to manage creative energy. Involvement in the arts improves socio-emotional learning and builds confidence, particularly for young creatives without formal training or community support.

Led by Devin Tanksley, Christiana Cudger, and rookie member Trinity Perdue, this division seeks to make artistic resources and career education more accessible across Birmingham. Through programming like Capture This!, the team cultivates talent, promotes collaboration, and empowers creatives to turn their passion into sustainable opportunity.
