Our Story
Founder and Executive Director, Wesley Wright, grew up fascinated with wrestling. He was even more enamored with the group Degeneration-X, a wrestling staple in the 1990's that changed the face of cable television forever. They were composed of individual wrestlers from different divisions and used vulgarity, comedy, and sexual innuendos during a rating war to become the most popular group of “degenerates” on TV. Seeing their impact Wesley thought, what if this was flipped for good? What if creatives positively utilized their individual gifts?
On July 27th, 2017, those questions began to be answered as The Regenerate Society, Inc. was officially incorporated. Beginning with seven individuals., Nehemiah Horace, Sheleka Laseter, Abigail Little, Oscar Montgomery, Jr., April Moton, Briauna Perryman, & Wesley Wright came together to help show how God's kingdom can creatively serve their community using their gifts & abilities starting with small efforts such as Relief Parties for Hurricane Harvey and BET-style award shows for the University of Alabama-Birmingham, these seven began to show Birmingham just how great an impact young dreamers can make. With the help of amazing partners, staff, and volunteers, the Regenerate Society, Inc., expanded its outreach and structure into a fully functional, five-division program that empowers a team of 17-24 year olds to Revive, Restore, & Regenerate faith in the generations to follow.
