2025 RS Family Field Day: A New Tradition Begins

The first-ever RS Family Field Day kicked off RS Day Weekend with joy, competition, and community spirit — and it was an absolute success! Eight participants teamed up for six games that tested both brains and brawn.

After an intense opening game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, determined who would lead as captains for the event, the teams were determined as follows:

Team Benji

Team Kameron

  • Kameron Phillips (Change Comes With Action)

  • Ni'Keriya Hurst, Outreach Captain (RS)

  • Mya Alston, Health & Wellness (RS)

  • Trinity Perdue, Creative Arts (RS)

After sorting the respective rosters, the first half of the event got off to an intense start! With both teams jostling for initial positioning, everything from red SOLO cups to random local trivia facts was used as leverage to secure a victory. After three dynamic games, Team Kameron got out to a safe lead after winning all three contests going into halftime.

Halftime Honors

At halftime, the competition paused for a special recognition moment. Katiana Banks was awarded Volunteer of the Year for her outstanding contributions throughout the season, including her leadership in events such as the Heritage Heroines Marquee Event, Urban Cookhouse Fundraiser Nights, and Media Day. The celebration of her service made the day even more meaningful.

After the team's brief intermission, the action was stepped up to maximum levels. Team Benji found themselves fighting hard to secure a much-needed win at the classic duel of Tug of War. That break in victory would prove to be the only one they found as Team Kameron took two more games, including the final round of relay races that cemented our RS Family Field Day results.

A Champion Team

🥇 Congratulations to Team Kameron, led by Kameron Phillips of Change Comes With Action, alongside RS members Trinity Perdue, Ni’Keriya Hurst, and Mya Alston. Their teamwork and determination secured them the title of 2025 Field Day Champions in a convincing fashion!

More Than Just Games

While the competition was a highlight, the deeper purpose of Field Day was clear: to fellowship with partners, alumni, and neighbors in a way that looked different than our usual events. This gathering reminded us how powerful it can be when joy, laughter, and connection take the lead.

Looking Ahead

This first Field Day served as the perfect launch to RS Day Weekend, setting the tone for the celebrations that followed. And the best news? Field Day is here to stay. Stay tuned for details on next season’s games — we can’t wait to see even more faces joining the fun.
